Title more or less asks it all.

Should QSFP change the default skin that comes with the package?

The white with blue primary tones is the default skin, called Blue Comet.

The one I personally would like to see become the new default is Ashlander 3, which is basically black with varying shades of greys as the primary highlights. .........................

I threw in my vote for "no"; probably because I'm used to light blue themes since they are the default for phpBB3 which I've ran quite a bit. Lighter colors, to me, also seem to make a site a bit more attractive and less "omg I'm in the dungeon!".

Hmm, and I was thinking of voting yes for almost the exact opposite reason. I've gotten quite used to the ashlander skin between here and the Smaug forums. Additionaly, the ashlander skin has added functionality (as far as I know, though it's been so long since I looked at the blue comet skin.. maybe you updated it already too) and it's the skin my own forums use (albeit a modified and possibly outdated version) so it's the one I'm most used to in that regard as well. From what I recall of the current default skin for QSFP, it's a little too bright for my own taste and I think the ashlander skin is very tastefully done. On the other hand, I have no problem with entering the dungeon either.   .........................

It's funny, because at one time I recall people saying that having a website with black backgrounds or dominated by black styling was a sign you were protesting something. Now it seems to be taken as a sign of a more professional look. Or just one that's considerate to the many folks ( such as myself ) who have a hard time with bright white backgrounds which dominate the blue themes. .........................

I don't know that I can honestly say that I recall a time when a primarily black website equated to protestation, though I can easily recall when one might find black dominated websites typically only amongst sites that were established for memorial purposes or ..."darker" interests.. black dominated websites have been fairly common amongst the BDSM scene and other alternative lifestylers as well as various anarchy themes for a decade or so, at least. But, if you're honest about it, gray on black looks pretty good generally and, provided it's done tastefully, can appear extremely professional. Afterall, before the web got big, the internet started as telnet and generally everything had a black background, even MS-DOS came with a black background, things are generally easier to read on a black background, provided the foreground is chosen tastefully, too. But perhaps that's just my opinion. Personally, I've always also favored blue backgrounds as well, but that could just be because blue is my favorite color to begin with. .........................

I think Ashlander is simply a much nicer theme than Blue Comet. Blue Comet is similar to other default themes, like phpbb2s, wordpresses, ect, in that they are all this neutral blue. But the thing is, QSFP's themes are alot simpler than phpbbs and wordpresses, so it is, in my opinion, destined for failure when its default theme mimics theirs. Ashlander, on the other hand, is an amazing theme.

I'd definitely say make it default.

Yeah. I never really did get the whole fascination that every package seems to have with the blue theme.

I'm also amazed that with the complete lack of activity around here lately that anyone still shows up at all :)

I'm pretty tempted to just go with Ashlander as the default and leave Blue Comet around as an alternative. I suppose it wouldn't even be that big of an issue to distribute with both skins. I just hate having to keep them both in sync all the time. .........................

Blue is a pretty (and neutral) color, but it does get old when every package uses it.

Sorry, I usually visit daily just in case there's anything new, but while away from home I've been a bit lazier than usual... I'm back now though. :)

At the moment, with a whopping six votes, it's a tie so I'd say if it's not too much effort then including both skins and setting Ashlander as the default with Blue Comet as an optional alternative sounds like a winning solution for everybody to me. The alternative would be to include Ashlander as the default and still maintain Blue Comet as an available download, if you still wanted to please everyone but not have to include both directly. *shrug* .........................
